An open gardens event in Hatfield Peverel raised more than £2,000 for people with cancer.

Earlier in the summer, residents made their gardens available to the public, with the final total now calculated.

The event was organised by Helen Rollason Cancer Charity and supported by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Communities.

Gardeners of all abilities took part, from complete novices to experienced horticulturalists.

A full range of gardens were on show, including formal gardens, cottage gardens, family gardens and gardens for wildlife.

They also ranged in size from small courtyards to the large garden and woodland area of The Crix in London Road.

Visitors to the gardens viewed stunning roses and summer flowers in full bloom, along with beautiful borders, ponds and patios, all while helping to fund support for people living with cancer.

At the beginning of the event, visitors picked up their maps from the Helen Rollason Centre in Hatfield Peverel, and they ended the tour with tea, coffee, homemade cakes and the chance to purchase plants.

Helen Rollason Cancer Charity fundraiser Zoe Jay said: "All the money raised will go towards providing support for those living with cancer.

"We would like to thank the RHS, the residents who opened their gardens, the visitors, the local businesses that donated plants, those who baked and donated cakes, and our dedicated team of volunteers who helped with the organisation."

The charity's fundraising team organises a range of events throughout the year, money from which is used to provide care and support for local people.

Upcoming events include a Rural Ramble at The Forgotten Gardens of Easton Lodge, just outside Dunmow, on Saturday, September 10.

Participants can enjoy a walk around the gardens and the surrounding scenic countryside.

All tickets include entry to the gardens and a cream tea after you have completed the route.

The Helen Rollason Cancer Charity supports men and women with all types of cancer at all stages, whether newly-diagnosed or longer term, throughout treatment and after treatment is completed.
