The chair of Uttlesford District Council is cycling around the district on an e-bike to raise money for a disability charity.

Cllr Geof Driscoll, who is the chair for 2023/2024, set off on Monday, September 4 on a ride which will see him cover more than 70 miles - taking in every ward in the district on the way.

He is cycling to raise awareness and funds for STRIDE, a six-month life skills project run by the charity Accuro for young people with learning disabilities in west Essex.

The programme covers topics for independent living including health, relationships, household tasks, keeping safe, employment, digital skills and more.

Geof said: "Accuro STRIDE is a fantastic project and makes a big difference in helping these young people to build their confidence and independence.

"I’ve been very keen to raise awareness of the charity after seeing the friendships and the happy faces of the group when I was invited to last year’s graduation.

"I would be very grateful for any sponsorship in aid of this very worthy cause.

"Thank you to Tekmotiv for loaning me the electric hybrid bike to complete this challenge."

On Geof's route he will also visit projects awarded funding through the council's Zero Carbon Communities Grant scheme.
