Felsted School has been recognised for 'high-quality education' with its inclusion in the Tatler Schools Guide 2024.

An independent day and boarding school for 1,000 girls and boys aged four to 18, set in a 90-acre campus, Felsted was also included in last year's edition.

Describing Felsted, the guide says: "Kindness, enthusiasm, tolerance, and happiness take centre stage, fostering a cheerful and grounded atmosphere in which the boys and girls thrive."

The school's sports programme was singled out for particular praise, which aims to support elite athletes while encouraging pupils of all abilities to lead active lifestyles.

Tatler also highlighted the choice of boarding arrangements, including weekly (five nights a week), contemporary (three nights a week), and full boarding (seven nights) - as well as the opportunities for pupils to develop independence, confidents and life skills.

Headteacher Chris Townsend said: "It is an honour to be included in this new edition of Tatler Schools Guide and to be able to share with a wide readership the essence of modern Felsted and our four and a half centuries of history.

"Felsted is a strong community of pupils, parents, staff and alumni and we are extremely proud of our ethos, which encourages young people to use the knowledge and skills they acquire while at the school to make a positive difference to the lives of others, whether on our doorstep, across the UK or around the world."

The school was founded in 1564 by Richard Lord Riche, Lord Chancellor to King Edward VI. Around 80 per cent of pupils aged 13 to 18 board, and a fifth of those are from families not based in the UK.

Famous alumni include Sir Marcus Setchell - former surgeon-gynaecologist to Queen Elizabeth II - England rugby player Max Malins, Professor Lucilla Poston - a leader in reproduction, endocrinology and fetal research - playwright Alecky Blythe, virologist and broadcaster Dr Chris Smith and four of the sons of Oliver Cromwell.

The inclusion in the Tatler Schools Guide comes at the end of a successful year for Felsted, which won 'Boarding School of the Year' at the TES Schools Awards.
