Year 3 children planted a new community wildflower meadow at Great Dunmow Recreation Ground.
Pupils from St Mary's Primary School helped sow seeds in the Chelmer Meadows area, which was specially prepared by the town council.
The children watched the area being scarified by a tractor to create bare patches, then sowed a mix of seeds from 27 different wildflower plant varieties.

The meadow was created to encourage more wildlife to the area and improve biodiversity, as well as creating a 'big splash of colour' for next summer and future years.
To let the wild plants flower and seed, the meadow will not be cut during spring and summer - which will also help the insects to complete their lifecycles.
