Pupils at Felsted Prep School surprised key workers and members of the emergency services with homemade baked goods.

The children dropped off boxes of sponges, pastries, cheesecakes and scones they had made themselves as a token of appreciation for the recipients' dedication to the community.

Pupils ages seven to 13 learnt to make the sweet treats as entries into the school's Bake-Off competition, and after the winners were announced got to work boxing up the cakes and loading them on to school buses to be delivered to community heroes.

Baked goods were delivered to Dunmow Fire Station, Farleigh Hospice, Glendale Care Home, Essex and Hertfordshire Air Ambulance and Broomfield Hospital children's ward.

Felsted Prep head Miranda Norris said: "Mrs Paine and Mr Maclean told me that the pupils wanted to do something to show how much they value the key workers in our local community, and they thought giving some of them a cake to go with a cup of tea would be a way to brighten their day.

"I am delighted to say that the pupils were able to meet some real life superheroes and the delicious cakes succeeded in making people smile and feel appreciated."

Older students at the school have also spent time assisting at food banks and night shelters.

Later this month, a group of Felsted sixth form boarders, along with a team of dedicated staff, will be gearing up to run a half-marathon in support of charities connected with the school.
