Felsted School teamed up with engineers from disability charity REMAP at the Billericay Soapbox Derby.
REMAP, a charity with the motto 'Resourceful Engineers Make Anything Possible,' designs and creates bespoke devices for people living with disabilities across Essex.
The pupils and REMAP recently collaborated on creating a computerised memory game for people with dementia.
The two groups joined forces again to participate in the Soapbox Derby together, with Felsted pupils helping launch the REMAP soapbox car.
Before the race, Felsted pupils Hugo, Dougie, Henry, and Jenson performed a sketch shining light on REMAP's six decades of innovative engineering work.
REMAP's soapbox made an exceptional record-breaking run at the derby, cutting eight seconds off its previous best time.
This achievement was made possible thanks to the help of Felsted staff members Mr Golding Fuller, Mr Bury, and Miss Westwood.
Christina Bury, assistant head - academic at Felsted School, said: "Our pupils demonstrated boundless enthusiasm and energy, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.
"We extend our gratitude to our supportive parents who cheered the team on."
Peter Livingstone, chairman of Essex Central REMAP, added: "Thank you to Felsted School for their invaluable help and enthusiasm at the Billericay Soapbox Derby.
"The sketches by Felsted students, who are also creating the REMAP Games Consoles, were a highlight in celebrating REMAP’s 60 years and Team Felsted's efforts as soapbox pushers ensured the best REMAP FLYER times.
"It was a great day and a super opportunity to raise awareness of REMAP and the dedicated work involved to support people with disabilities across Essex at no cost - thank you, everyone."
The school's relationship with REMAP has encouraged students to make a positive impact and learn about giving back to the community.
Head of Felsted Prep, Miranda Norris, said: "It is an absolute joy to see our Felsted learners pay it forward and give their time and talent in acts of service - it’s fun too!"
Felsted School was crowned Boarding School of the Year 2023 and in March 2024 was named as ‘A Top 20 UK IB School for 2023’ by IB-Schools.com.
