Ukrainian refugees living in Uttlesford are able to apply for a new housing support package.

The offer, which is open to those who are eligible under Uttlesford District Council's Home's for Ukraine Scheme, will allow for the continued accommodation of guests in private rental properties.

The package includes a deposit and six week's rent in advance, as well as a guarantee to cover the rent if the tenant is unable to do so.

A dedicated fund has been set up to help top up rent when it is not fully met by housing allowance.

Cllr Maggie Sutton, portfolio holder for communities, said: "This new housing support package will greatly assist those who wish to continue forging meaningful new lives in our district.

"The additional services we are providing allow us to expand on our existing support, offering many families the chance to settle and flourish here."

The council has also extended the individual support grant - previously only open to Ukrainian refugees - to all asylum seekers in Uttlesford who have been granted indefinite leave to remain and are staying in specific accommodation.

The grant can be used for moving costs and towards the purchase of essential household items, up to a maximum of £1,500 per family.
