A Stebbing physiotherapist completed a "gruelling" walk around the M25 motorway for a children's charity.

Ashley Spivack, 57, walked the entire way around the 158-mile orbital motorway on Saturday, June 22 to raise money for The Tabora League for Children (TLC).

Although he did not break the world record of completing the route in under 43 hours and 58 minutes - instead completing it in 75 hour and 27 minutes - Ashley still raised thousands for the charity.

He has so far raised £27,467.90, with donations still being collected at https://app.goodhub.com/tabora-league-for-children-tlc-8565.

The money will go towards TLC's work with vulnerable children and young people in Tanzania, providing clean water, food and support so they can attend school regularly.

Ashley, who is married with two daughters, was inspired to raise money for Tanzania after visiting in 1984.

He said: He said: "I would be so grateful for any donations, as this is such a worthy cause which transforms young people’s lives.

"I have seen with my own eyes the wonderful work this charity is doing, and what a difference they are making to improve the life chances of some of the most disadvantaged young people on our planet."

Since his first visit, Ashley has raised money for numerous charity projects in Tanzania, including arranging and financing the building of sanitation facilities, providing bicycles for vulnerable girls to get to school and paying school fees for the poorest children in the country.

Outside of his fundraising, Ashley works as a physiotherapist in Newbury Park, Greater London.

As walking on the motorway is prohibited, during his challenge Ashley used the embankment of the motorway and A and B roads to stay as close to the M25 as possible.

In addition to raising money for charity, Ashley also lost 7kg.

At the end of his walk, Ashley said: "Thank you to everybody who sponsored me and who's supported me, I couldn't have done it without you.

"It's amazing the strength encouragement gives you. I was completely blown away by it.

"It actually gives you the strength and motivation to finish, so I am eternally grateful."
