According to Uttlesford Citizens Advice, 17,114 households in the district are failing to claim £40,432,011 of support each year.
Last month the Chancellor removed Winter Fuel Payments for older people not claiming Pension Credit, and Citizens Advice is now urging residents to ensure they are claiming their benefits so they do not miss out.
You can check your eligibility for support using the benefits calculator on the Uttlesford District Council website at https://uttlesford.entitledto.co.uk/home/start.
There are 661 older people in Uttlesford who are eligible for but not claiming Pension Credit.
If you are just £500 over the income threshold to claim Pension Credit, you could be better off by having lower income and claiming Pension Credit and the Winter Fuel Payment.
In Uttlesford there are also 1,015 people who are on a low income or unemployed and are missing out on Universal Credit.
Uttlesford families eligible for Universal Credit are missing out on an extra £7,014,410 of support each year from free school meals and pupil premium funding.
