Great Dunmow Fire Station is holding a recruitment taster evening this month for anyone interested in becoming an on-call firefighter.

The event will take place at the fire station from 6pm to 9pm on Thursday, October 24.

Attendees will have the chance to meet the station's on-call firefighters, who all live or work within five minutes of the station, so they can see first-hand what the job entails.

The evening will also include live demonstrations, showcasing the equipment and kit used in real-life rescues.

You can book your place at greatdunmowfire.eventbrite.co.uk.

Watch manager Darren Woodard said: "Our fire station is fully staffed by on-call firefighters who are paged when an incident occurs.

"Whether they’re at work or relaxing at home, when the pager goes off, they respond – it could be a fire, an animal rescue, or even a chemical incident.

"Beyond emergency response, we’re also heavily involved in community events like the Great Dunmow Soap Box Race, which is a yearly highlight for us.

"The station currently has 14 on-call firefighters and we’re looking to recruit eight more.

"If you are over 18, physically fit and live or work within five minutes of Great Dunmow Fire Station, you could be paid to serve your community as an on-call firefighter.

"We’d love to share more about the role to anyone interested."
