The Hundred Parishes Society is celebrating 'quiet lane walks' in Uttlesford which avoid the use of footpaths.
The society covers 100 parishes in Essex, Hertfordshire and South Cambridgeshire, celebrating their attractions, conservation areas and heritage.
On their website https://hundredparishes.org.uk/, the society lists a selection of walks, mainly focusing on footpaths.
Last winter's rain made many footpaths difficult to walk on, so the society has now developed a list of 'quiet lane walks' which avoid footpaths, bridleways and byways.
The circular routes featured on their list include those in Hatfield Broad Oak, Little Hallingbury, Clavering, High Easter, Felsted, Great Easton, Littlebury, Ickleton, Leaden Roding and Arkesden.
These vary in length from three to more than 10 miles, to suit walkers with different levels of experience.
