A former restaurant which was raided by police is set to be converted into a new children’s nursery.

The Temple Building in Braintree Road, Felsted, which was formerly the Razza restaurant and before that the United Reformed Chapel, is set for proposed works consisting of conversion to a children’s nursery with rear outdoor play area and installation of fences.

The restaurant has been closed for some time, and - back in August 2017 - two suspected immigration offenders were arrested during a raid at the business.

Temple Building is a Grade II listed building and a previous plan to convert the building into new homes was thrown out.

The plans state there would be 20 new jobs created if the nursery plan is given the go ahead.

The existing rear parking is to be replaced by the proposed play area with four parking bays proposed to the front, solely for staff usage.

The nursery will operate from 7.30am to 6.30pm, giving parents a wide window for drop-off and collection.

The bosses insist they have taken steps to prevent issues around parking, congestion and traffic. Residents, businesses and commuters already face delays and congestion in and around the area during school times.

The plans state: "Unlike schools, which typically have a single start and end time, nurseries benefit from staggered arrival and departure times, with parents dropping off and picking up over a 90-minute window at each end of the day.

"This approach naturally disperses traffic, easing congestion during peak times.

"The nursery anticipates a portion of intake will include families with children at the neighbouring school.

“These families are likely to coordinate nursery drop-offs and collections with school routines, reducing the need for additional trips and further minimising the impact on local traffic.

"We are committed to working closely with the local council and the school to reduce any potential logistical impact from a traffic perspective.

"Where necessary, we are more than willing to explore collaborative measures to ensure that our presence integrates smoothly into the community’s daily routines.

"This stepped approach will ensure that the nursery adds value to the community while keeping traffic flow manageable.

"The nursery is committed to a responsible approach that aligns with the needs of local residents.

"The proposal seeks to adapt the building in a way that respects its historical and architectural significance, while ensuring its continued function within the Felsted community.

"By accommodating a nursery, the project will bring new life to a currently vacant building and ensure its preservation through sensitive use and minimal alteration.

"The development offers clear social, environmental, and economic benefits, ensuring that the building remains a well-maintained, active part of the community."
