An industrial centre near Stansted Airport could get a major redevelopment including over 13,000 square metres of new warehouses.
Ropemaker Properties Limited has submitted a pre-application request to Uttlesford District Council for the redevelopment of Stansted Distribution Centre, one of the district’s major business parks.
According to the request for a screening opinion, a pre-application submission asking whether an environmental assessment will be needed at a later stage, 9,200 square metres of existing open storage would be redeveloped, with 13,400 square metres of open floor space being provided overall.
7,750 square metres of floorspace across seven existing units would be demolished to make way for the new structures.
Additionally, car parking, servicing yards and soft landscaping are being proposed as part of the plans.
According to the request, the applicant is suggesting the warehousing and light industrial uses will not increase pollution or noise, and will not have a significant urbanising effect on the area given the site’s current use.

A section read: "The proposals include flexible employment floorspace in warehousing and light industrial us e, similar to the existing uses operating on site currently.
"It is not considered that warehousing and light industrial uses are 'noisy' uses and that traffic generated by such uses will not increase significantly.
"Therefore, no greater noise impacts on neighbouring uses is expected from the new proposals."
Stansted Distribution Centre is just south of Stansted Airport, in Takeley Lane, and currently consists of 12 single-storey units, containing offices and warehouses.
It is also bordered by other industrial sites, residential homes and the Flitch Way country wildlife corridor.
