Felsted old boy Matthew Coward-Holley saw his hopes of another Olympic medal disappear at Paris 2024.
The 29-year-old had picked up a bronze at Tokyo and going in the men's trap qualification in France, he recorded a score of 117 from the 125 targets shot at.
But with only the top six making the final, he found himself five behind the required total to move into the afternoon showdown, finishing 25th.
There was joy though for British team-mate Nathan Hales.
He had missed just two targets in qualification to take his place in the final where he overcame the nerves and the heat to land gold with 48 hits from his 50 shots taken, an Olympic record.
China's Qi Yong took silver and Jean Pierre Brol Cardenas of Guatemala the bronze.
It's Britain's third gold of the games following Tom Pidcock's success in the men's mountain bike and the equestrian three-day eventing team prize.
