Saffron Walden Musical Theatre Company is set to reopen with two musicals – and is looking for participants.
The company has been temporarily closed for the past year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Formed in 1922, Saffron Walden Musical Theatre Company, formerly Saffron Walden Amateur Operatic Society, regularly produces award-winning productions in Walden.
The group scheduled musical Wind in the Willows for the youth group for November 5-13, 2021.
Kinky Boots for the adult group will mark the group’s 100th anniversary next year, in March 2022.
Saffron Walden Musical Theatre Company Chair Fiona Wilson Waterworth said: “Our youth and adult groups are thrilled to be bringing musical theatre back to Saffron Walden.
“The arts community has been bereft with the lack of creative expression over the past year.
She added: “I am so excited to get the rights to ‘Kinky Boots’, it’s just the kind of uplifting, heart-warming and at times hilarious journey we all want to be taken on after the recent pandemic.
“We really hope to see lots of lovely new faces joining our company for both the youth and the adult groups. Both shows are set to be amazing!”
SWMTC wants as many people as possible to get involved in the youth and adult group productions.
Those who want to participate can help not only by performing on stage, but also backstage or front of house.
A spokesperson for the group said: “We want to show how enriching the musical theatre experience can be.”
The spokesperson added: “We are an inclusive and nurturing company that welcomes members of all ages to join and be a part of something exceptional.”
Wind in the Willows will have an audition workshop towards the end of June and rehearsals will start in September. The production will run between November 5-13, 2021.
Rehearsals and auditions for Kinky Boots will start in October 2021.
